About the Show
The acclaimed musical, direct from the Off-Broadway Musical in NYC! The Whimsical World of Sherlock Holmes tells the story of Sherlock Holmes and his fellow fictional characters who leap off the page to live out their fantasies when Sir Arthur Conan Doyle suffers an emotional breakdown, coming down to a battle of wits to determine who is really in control – creator or creation? |
This musical is a notable part of Read Play Love's history! Originally performed as an RPL Musical for kids in 2018, when Broadway Producer Michael Jenkins saw the show and encouraged us to revise it for an adult cast and submit it to the New York Festival circuit. It was then selected for the highly competitive Broadway Bound Theatre Festival, performing a successful run in Times Square in 2021, where it received rave reviews and 5 Broadway World Nominations, including Best New Off-Broadway Musical.
In 2023, we brought it back full circle as our first RPL Teen Show, and now the much anticipated encore here is for 2026! Get all the details below!

Production Details
- Performances: August 19, 20, 21 (Wed, Thurs, Fri) at The Backyard Venue, Lowry Crossing
- Ages: Open to actors 13+
- Free Workshops: Two Free Teen Workshops will help prepare for auditions:
- Friday, May 1 and 15 @ 4:30-7:00
- Workshops are optional. Everyone is welcome, regardless of experience, skill level, or audition plans. Workshops are free to attend, but reservations are required. Please sign up on this form.

- Production Fees (due by first rehearsal, May 28)
- Non-Member Production Fees: $290/1 child. $100 per additional child
- Discounted RPL Member Fees: RPL Members in active standing save 2/3 off the regular production fees. For "The Whimsical World of Sherlock Holmes" the member rates are: $120/1 child, $160/2 children, $200 for 3 children. Click here for info about RPL Membership.
- Other potential costs may include:
- 🍭A Concessions Donation of $15 per family, due August 1
- 👗Costume costs - parents work together to decide and make everything as cost-effective as possible, often using shared, donated, or secondhand materials to keep costs minimum and much less expensive than other theatre production opportunities
- 📕Script - Each actor is responsible for the printing and binding of their script at their own cost. For music, we will send song links of MP3 tracks, which you can download to a playlist
- 🎟️Tickets to the live shows and livestreaming access are reserved by donations of any amount
- 🪙Optional Fundraisers, such as t-shirts, photobooks, raffles, and silent auctions, are optional and up to the discretion of each family.
- Rehearsals: Starting May 28, rehearsals will be at RPL on Thursdays 4:30-6:30 and Friday 5:00-7:30. Not all roles will be called for every rehearsal, or for the full time each week. We will work with your schedule as much as possible, but actors' availability for both days will be taken into account when casting.
- Final Rehearsals & Performances - Required by ALL:
- Required Run-Throughs are August 12, 13, and 14 at RPL, 3:00-7:30.
- Dress rehearsals are August 17 & 18 at The Backyard Venue, 4:30-9:00
- Performances at The Backyard Venue on August 19, 20, 21. Call time of 5pm for a 7pm show.
- Parent Volunteer Time- Please know that all parents are expected to volunteer in a capacity, based on their interests, skills and time available. A form for indicating preferences is given the first week of rehearsals. This investment of time is crucial for an all-volunteer production, and we work with each family to find the best fit that works with your schedule.
Our performance location: The Backyard Venue in Lowry Crossing is an enchanting spot just around the corner from RPL, where we have loved performing our past three Teen Musicals!
