Musical Theatre U @ Dancer Strong
January 2020 starts the Spring semester for Ms. Marney to teach Musical Theatre U classes, hosted by Dancer Strong in McKinney
Wednesdays:
1:00-2:30: Age 8+
In Musical Theatre U, kids learn Musical Theatre FUNdamentals, with an emphasis on the FUN! MTU’s creative curriculum uses traditional Broadway shows to teach basic principles in both acting and singing. Each month introduces a new core concept, and at the end of the month, performers earn a “rising star” for each skill they successfully demonstrate.
Musical Theatre U was developed and is taught by Marney Makridakis, the Artistic Director of Read Play Love. She offers an encouraging, heart-centered approach to building the technique and confidence in singing, acting and performance skills of every child. This program is ideal for kids who might be trying singing or acting for the first time, as well as for seasoned performers ready to spread their wings.’
Concepts taught in Musical Theatre U include:
• Stage positioning
• Character development
• Acting through physicality and mannerisms
• Storytelling and emotional arcs in song
• Working with scenery and props
• Acting and reacting with scene partners
• Mastering acting “beats” in song
• Vocal projection, articulation, diction
• Lyric analysis and interpretation
• Improving pitch and vocal range
• Building singing stamina
• Harmony and blending
• Making character choices through singing tone
• Taking bold performance risks
• And so much more!
