Intro to Harmony & Ensemble Singing
Fridays 2:30-3:30
This brand new class, taught by Ms. Marney and Ms. Kelli, is for older kids interested in learning about the technical aspects of ensemble singing - i.e., blending and harmonizing with a group.
We'll start with singing building blocks:
-singing position and posture
-tone and vocal dynamics
-ear training (pitch and interval)
-basic music theory
From there, we'll use exercises and songs to introduce tools and techniques to improve group sound in both unison and harmony. As this is a brand new class, we'll be experimenting to see what works best with the interests and skills of the group.
While the specific content will be developed organically, when working on blending, we'll likely be looking at things like: tone, pitch, rhythm, breath, pace, and articulation. When exploring harmony, we'll probably cover things like: chord structure, pitch, intervals, vocal range, consistency, and mood.
We'll also listen to different a cappella groups to observe their styles and sound. More than anything, we'll do a lot of practice to help students train their ears to "hear" harmony and create it themselves.
This class is for students who have a true desire to learn about the technical aspects of singing and work to improve as a group. Students also need to be able to focus for the full hour of instruction and practice. Though focus and motivation are more important considerations than age, we do recommend age 11 and up for this group.
Class Schedule
For Summer 2022, class will meet on Fridays 2:30-3:30, before production rehearsals (with a 30 minute break before rehearsals), starting May 20 and finishing August 12. We will not meet during production weeks for RPL performances.

The class fee is $100 for the summer and $30 for each additional child
