About the Show: Dinner & A Show - the ultimate evening of entertainment and enchantment! A crime has been committed, and Sherlock Holmes should be on the case!  But…author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is suffering an emotional breakdown, his characters are disillusioned and exhausted, and Sherlock’s inner song-and-dance man is bursting to emerge! So what happens when characters from the "Sherlock Holmes" stories leap off the pages to follow their own dreams? Explore the joys and consequences of free will when the famous detective takes control of his creator, Arthur Conan Doyle in a battle of wits to decide who is really in charge - creator or creation?

About the Performance:  The Whimsical World of Sherlock Holmes will be presented in an elegant, climate-controlled cedar barn with immersive staging that surrounds you in the story.  You'll feel like you're right in the middle of a Sherlock Holmes story! Before the show and during intermission, enjoy the magical surroundings of this truly unique location. Seats are limited, so reserve yours soon!

About the Meal Service:  Before the curtain rises—or during our extended intermission—join us for a delightful British-inspired Jacket Potato Bar!  Your meal also includes dessert and bottled water. Additional beverages and theatre concessions will be available for purchase.  To avoid missing out, we encourage you to reserve your meal in advance. Frequently Asked Questions

What is special about this production?
This musical is a notable part of Read Play Love's history!  Originally performed as an RPL Musical for kids in 2018, when Broadway Producer Michael Jenkins saw the show and encouraged us to revise it for an adult cast and submit it to the New York Festival circuit.  It was then selected for the highly competitive Broadway Bound Theatre Festival, performing a successful run in Times Square in 2021, where it received rave reviews and 5 Broadway World Nominations, including Best New Off-Broadway Musical.

In 2023, we brought it back full circle as our first RPL Teen Show, and now the much anticipated encore is here for 2026!

Where are the live performances held?
The Backyard Venue is an enchantingly beautiful wedding/event center in Lowry Crossing (E. McKinney), just around the corner from Read Play Love.  The performance will take place in a climate-controlled handcrafted elegant barn, and outdoor pavilion areas offer beautiful backdrop for dinner and refreshments before the show and during intermission.  The folks who operate The Backyard Venue are our wonderful neighbors, and we recommend their venue and services wholeheartedly for weddings and special events. Learn more about The Backyard here!

What is the age recommendation?
We recommend ages 8+, or children who are able to sustain attention for the entire performance.  It is primarily a comedy with some mature themes including a character struggling with alcoholism and a light romance. Reach out to us if you have any questions about content.

How can I order roses for my favorite actor(s)?
Celebrate your favorite performer, or members of the crew or production parents with a rose(s) delivered with your own personal message.

Whether you're in the audience or sending love from far away, this is a great way to send your love, encouragement, and congratulations!  All profits from flower orders directly support this production and Read Play Love's theatre programming.  Simply go here to order flowers.

Do I need to bring a paper ticket?
Nope, there's nothing you need to keep track of!  Upon receiving your reservation, you will be added to a list with the number of seats your requested.  Simply check in at the box office upon your arrival.

Is there assigned seating?
With the exception of those in our RPL Partners Circle, seating is general admission, first-come, first-served.   The indoor venue will open for seating at 6:30. There are no reserved seats prior to 6:30, but the doors to the  lobby and outdoor grounds open at 6:00 and you are welcome to arrive early.  If you requested a meal, your meal ticket will be given to you when you arrive and meals will be available for pickup at 6:15pm (as well as intermission!)  RPL Partners do have priority seating for the shows of their choice; go here for details!

Do you accomodate dietary needs?
Yes! We are serving a  British-inspired Jacket Potato Bar! Create your perfect jacket potato from a variety of traditional toppings, with the option to include shredded chicken. Vegan and gluten-free jacket potato options are available; Simply request the number of special meals when you make your reservation. Be sure to reserve your meal in advance so you can guarantee your food choice, and get a discount!

What if I need to change the number of seats I reserved?
If the number of seats that you need increases, please make an additional reservation on this page.  If it decreases, please contact us with the updated number.  As seating is limited, this will help us open up seats to other families.
What is the RPL Partner Circle?
It’s a way to support Read Play Love and get reserved tickets, priority seating, and special perks throughout our 2026 season, Portals to Imagination.  If you have already purchased tickets, you can reach out to us to apply your ticket price to any Partnership level.

How does the livestreaming option work?
You - or your friends, family and RPL supporters - can watch the Saturday and Sunday shows anywhere! (and/or watch the recorded replay!)  Simply reserve your ticket using the "Livestream/Recording" option above. You will receive access to a private website and the exclusive live video will begin streaming approximately 15 minutes prior to the show's start, and will continue live for the entire show, so you can watch it in real time.  After the show, you will have unlimited access to the recorded replay afterwards, so don't worry if you can't watch the live performance.

What is the run-time of the show?
Approximately 2 hours plus an intermission.

Where can I get information about my child participating in a future show?
