Read Play Love Celebrates Its 10th Anniversary with Fiddler on the Roof!

Read Play Love proudly celebrates 10 years of creativity, community, and love with the musical Fiddler on the Roof, one of the most cherished musicals in American theatre. This timeless classic musical, rich in history and heart, explores the universal theme of tradition, and the possibilities of transcending barriers of race, class, and religion. Performed by our summer Teen Ensemble, this production embodies RPL’s mission to empower kids and adolescents to create an inclusive culture of love.

Food and Fun! To enhance the celebration, all three performances offer a delicious meal to enjoy before the show or intermission, as well as fun activities to celebrate RPL's 10 year anniversary!

For families: The evening performances are for audience members ages 10 and up. If you have younger children, we recommend the Date Night Package on September 11, which includes babysitting, or the Encore Performance at RPL on Saturday morning, which is welcome for all ages.  More details below.

​​About the Performance:  At The Backyard Venue, Fiddler on the Roof will come to life in an elegant, fully air-conditioned cedar barn with immersive staging that surrounds you in the story.  Before the show and during intermission, enjoy the magical surroundings of this truly unique location.

It's time for a Date! While your children are cared for at Read Play Love, you'll get to be immersed in the touching love stories of Fiddler on the Roof in the magical atmosphere of The Backyard Venue.  For the full 3.5 hours of the event, our babysitting team will keep them entertained with games, activities, and lots of fun! While we’ll provide water and snacks, we kindly ask that you pack a convenient dinner for your child.

About the Childcare: Babysitting takes place Read Play Love - right around the corner from The Backyard Venue, with childcare provided by RPL parents. During the 3.5-hour event, your kids will be entertained with games, activities and fun!  Please pack a convenient dinner for your child; we'll provide water and snacks.  Your Date Night Package covers up to 2 kids, age 1-10. If you have more than 2 children, please contact us to arrange for additional childcare.

Bring your own lawn chairs and enjoy a family-friendly atmosphere where all ages are welcome. For those needing a break or a cool-down, our cozy RPL Library will be open and air-conditioned, providing a perfect retreat for younger children. During intermission, children can explore our playground areas while families soak in the creative energy of RPL’s vibrant world.

What makes this RPL production different?
Read Play Love is a non-profit organization that serves children of all ages through empower experiences in the art. While we generally write our musicals, customizing them so that every child has a role created just for them to shine - for our 10th anniversary, we are presenting a special production of the beloved classic, Fiddler on the Roof, performed by our talented ensemble of teens.  These twenty-three actors (19 teens and 4 junior cast members) have done an amazing job taking on one of the most challenging classic musicals - and bringing it to life with understanding and heart. The entire production team consists of RPL parents who are devoted to creating a truly memorable musical theatre experience for you. With its timeless message of family, traditions, and tolerance, Fiddler on the Roof is a perfect musical for Read Play Love's 10th anniversary celebration!

How do donation-basis reservations work?
​Our Read Play Love tradition is to take reservations on a donation basis. This way,  those who are able to donate more to support Read Play Love's fundraising campaign can do so, and if any family would find regular ticket prices cost prohibitive, they can donate what they can.   The donation model more closely reflects what RPL has always been: a heart-centered space that empowers children from all backgrounds to shine and do more than they think they can do, and brings families together to create an inclusive culture of love.

As we are serving meals with these performances, we have minimum donation amounts listed for evening performances and all ticket options including meals.   Reservations for the Saturday morning performance can be made with a donation of any amount. All donations support Read Play Love's mission to empower children through the arts and create an inclusive culture of love.   Donations above the minimum amount are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.

What is the difference between the two performance locations?
The two evening performances take place at The Backyard Venue - an enchantingly beautiful wedding event center just around the corner from Read Play Love.   The evening performances take place in a more upscale environment, include the option of dinner service, and there is even a Date Night package that includes babysitting.  At The Backyard, the performance will take place in an air-conditioned handcrafted elegant barn, and outdoor pavilion areas offer beautiful backdrop for dinner and refreshments before the show and during intermission.  Actors will perform in full costume with the set and props designed for this production.

The Saturday Morning Special Encore Performance is ideal for those with families with younger children. The relaxed atmosphere at Read Play Love makes it easy to bring the kids and step into the RPL Library whenever they need a break.  A more casual brunch of breakfast sandwiches will be served, for those who opt to reserve a meal.  The performance will take place with a more limited set, and due to summer heat, actors may be wearing paired-down versions of their costumes. With a family-centric story like "Fiddler on the Roof," we are delighted to share it on RPL's own stage, in an environment full of love!   At both locations, the performances Fiddler on the Roof  are presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI.)

What is The Backyard Venue?
The Backyard Venue is a stunning wedding venue in Lowry Crossing.  We are thrilled to be performing in this utterly beautiful location!  Located right around the corner from RPL, the folks who run The Backyard are our wonderful neighbors, and we recommend their venue and services wholeheartedly for weddings and special events. What is Read Play Love's Outdoor Theatre?
At The Read Play Love Exploratory, we have a rustic outdoor theatre right in the middle of the space that RPL Families call home! Bring your own lawn chairs and we suggest that also bring whatever will help you be comfortable outside (bug spray, sun screen, sun hat, mister).  Cold beverages will be available, and the air-conditioned RPL Library will be open as well, especially for younger children who might need to take a break.

In the Date Night Package, what does the childcare consist of?
Babysitting takes place at Read Play Love - right around the corner from The Backyard Venue, with childcare provided by RPL parents.  Your Date Night Package covers two children, age 1-10.  If you have more than two children, please contact us to make arrangements. During the 3.5-hour event, your kids will be entertained with games, activities, and fun! Please pack a convenient dinner for your child; we’ll provide water and snacks.

Is there assigned seating?
At both venues, seating is general admission, first-come, first-served.  Doors open 30 minutes prior to the performance start time.  You are welcome to grab your seat and then go pick up your meal, if you'd like to have your meal before the show begins.

When is the meal served?
At both venues, you can pick up your meal and beverage either before the show begins or during intermission.  At The Backyard, open containers of food are not allowed indoors, but you will be given a convenient container that closes, if you'd like to finish your meal at intermission. At the Saturday morning performance at RPL, you are welcome to eat and drink as you watch the show.

Do you accommodate dietary needs?
For meal options at all performances, delicious vegan and gluten-free options are available on request. When you make your reservation, there is a spot for you to request vegan or gluten-free options.  

Does the meal need to be reserved in advance?
We ask that you reserve your meal in advance, so that our cooking team can adequately prepare. Onsite meals will be limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.


What if I need to change the number of seats I reserved?
If the number of seats that you need increases, please make an additional reservation on this page.  If it decreases, please contact us with the updated number.  As seating is limited, this will help us open up seats to other families.

Do I need to bring a paper ticket?
Nope, there's nothing you need to keep track of!  Upon receiving your reservation, you will be added to a list with the number of seats your requested.  Simply check in upon your arrival. If you requested a meal, your meal ticket will be given to you when you arrive.

Is there a livestream or video option for this performance?
Unfortunately, there is not a livestreaming option for this production, which is licensed by Music Theatre International. The taking of any video is strictly prohibited.


What is the run-time of the show?
The show itself is three hours. Each performance will have an extended 30-minute intermission, to allow time for meal service, socializing and enjoying displays and activities to celebrate 10 years of Read Play Love!
