Frequently Asked Questions

What is special about this production?
Read Play Love is a non-profit organization that serves children of all ages through empower experiences in the arts, including theatre productions.  Our focus is to nurture the creative self-discovery of each student and encourage the development of inclusive collaboration.  Because of our inclusive environment, RPL has become a haven for many neurodivergent children and teens who may have difficulty integrating in more traditional theatre settings.  At RPL, everyone belongs, and everyone shines.

While most RPL musicals are original works written just for our kids, our Teen Productions sometimes feature published shows that offer new opportunities for growth. We’re especially excited to present Amélie: The Musical, a whimsical story that beautifully reflects the heart of RPL—the power of imagination, kindness, and connection. You’ll be seeing Amélie: Teen Edition, a family-friendly blend of the Broadway and West End versions.

How do donation-basis reservations work?
For our Teen Shows, we have minimum donation amounts listed, which help cover production costs, licensing fees, meal service, and venue rental. If you are able to contribute above the minimum amount, be assured that every dollar goes back into the costs for producuing this show  and to provide inclusive theatre programming for all.  Donations above the minimum amount are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.

Is the Production Family Friendly?
Yes! The show is appropriate for most audiences. Our suggestion is ages 8+ or children able to sustain attention and interest for the full performance. Because of the accoustics in the venue, sounds from the audience is amplified, so audience members of all ages must watch quietly and respectfully. Themes of this imaginative modern fairy tale include light romance and a mild dark comedy moment.  Feel free to reach out to us if you have questions.

Where can I read the synopsis of the story?
Since the musical differs from the French film, and the Teen Edition is modified from the original musical,  we invite you to read this synopsis before the show.  In addition to being aware of the changes from its source material, knowing the plot ahead of time may make it easier to follow the story.

Synopsis: As a child, Amélie grew up isolated, feeling unseen and misunderstood, and retreated into a vivid inner world of imagination and possibility. Now grown, she lives quietly in the Montmartre district of Paris, content to work in the Two Windmills Cafe and observe life from the edges -- until one small discovery sets her on a whimsical mission to secretly improve the lives of those around her. Through a series of anonymous and elaborate schemes, Amélie helps a stranger reconnect with his family, helps a blind woman “see” the village for the first time, gives closure to a grieving co-worker, inspires her father to follow his dream of traveling the world, nudges hesitant lovers together, and encourages a frail artist to find his own voice.

But as her hidden kindnesses awaken joy and transformation in her colorful village, Amélie faces her greatest challenge: opening her own heart to love. When she sees a kindred spirit, the two share an undeniable connection, but Amélie insists on continuing her elaborate charades to keep her identity a secret. The question becomes: can the girl who helps everyone else find connection allow herself to be seen?
