RPL Programs for Teens

ead Play Love has a thriving program for teens fostering an inclusive, creative environment. Though the majority of teens in our activities are homeschooled or in hybird-schools, we welcome all teens.

Read Play Love offers a specialized theatre program just for teens, including musical theatre classes and at least  full-scale production per year.  Many teens are involved in both our mainstage RPL musicals (for all ages) and the teen-only shows, and find valuable experiences in both settings.  We also offer more advanced classes for building skills and confidence and helping each individual teen grow to the best of their ability.

In addition to musical productions and classes, we also have ongoing Monthly Teen Hangouts for Members, such as game nights, murder mystery nights, mixers, etc.  If you're interested in becoming involved in an inclusive, creative environment for teens, scroll down to read about upcoming opportunities below, or contact Marney at [email protected]

Upcoming Teen Opportunities

  1. Monthly Meetups - Usually the 3rd Friday of Every month (no meetup on 1/29 due to ice) - and are updated on this page.

  2. Thurs & Friday, Feb 12 and 13 : Auditions for Saltwater Song! This is our spring mainstage show for age 4-19, which performs at WAG on April 24-26.  This production will have updated musical arrangements for all the songs!  There are strong roles to be carried by our more mature performers!  I can work around keeping Teens rehearsing on Fridays, to be convenient with the Teen Musical Theatre U class that Lisa and I are teaching on Fridays.
    - Audition Signup here
    - Get full production details here (including synopsis, audition prep, rehearsal dates, etc.)

  3. Friday, Feb 13, 6:00-7:00pm,  Free Teen Theatre Workshop for ages 13-19 – Theatre games, learn a song from Saltwater Song, connect with other teens.  Auditions are held before and after the workshop.  You do not have to audition for the show to attend the free workshop – it’s open to all!   Sign up for the Teen Workshop here!

  4. Feb 20: first day of weekly “Teen Musical Theatre U” class on Fridays, 4:30-7:00.  Lisa and I are co-teaching! We’re excited about this class and what we can do with the teens with this kind of focused work that is separate from a show – the kinds of details we don’t have time to cover during a production.  The 8 week Mini-Mester runs Feb 20-April 9 and you can attend the first week for free. Get full description of what Lisa and I will be covering here.  Free for members, enrollment fee for non-members.

  5. May 1, 8, 15: 3 Free “Sherlock” Masterclasses to gear up for the auditions for the Teen Musical: The Whimsical World of Sherlock Holmes.  We’re continuing this tradition of a series of workshops before auditions happen, to help kids learn the musical and get a headstart!  These workshops are free to everyone, so plan to invite friends!!

  6. May 21 & 22: Auditions for The Whimsical World of Sherlock Holmes.  Musical for age 13+, performing at The Backyard on Aug 19, 20, 21.  This is the show Tony and I wrote that premiered Off-Broadway in New York City in 2021, which we produced with our teens in 2023 and I’m SO excited to do it again!! We’ll schedule a watch party for the New York performance soon!  Rehearsals will continue to be Thursdays and Fridays.

  7. August 7-9: Help with the Juniors Musical – “Cinderella and the Clockwork Kingdom” is the Juniors show (age 3-12) that will be rehearsing while the teens are rehearsing Sherlock. It performs at WAG on August 7-9.  We’d love to have teens helping in various capacity – from tech (lights/sound) to helping backstage.  Production week starts Monday Aug 3 (and no Sherlock rehearsals that week.) If you might be interested in this, please let me know asap so I have an idea of who might want to be involved.  NOTE: If you need to fill volunteer hours, I will need rehearsal assistants throughout the summer for this show. Reach out to me if you are interested!

  8. August: Halloween Event Prep : For our Halloween Event on Oct 23, we’re inviting teens to work together to create an immersive experience for a Haunted Maze (characters, storyline, etc.)  This teen group will meet regularly starting in August. More details to come!

  9. September 10-11: Auditions for “The Last Library” – Brand New Mainstage Musical performing Nov 20-21.  My intention is to write this one so that the Teens rehearse separately as their own little group before coming together with the full cast at the end (like we did with “Alive” a few years ago) – so it will be like a second teen show in the fall.  Plan to keep rehearsals on Thursdays & Fridays.

  10. December Holidays – Just an FYI: we aren’t doing any shows after Thanksgiving this year – but we’re sure to have Holiday events planned for all ages, TBA.
