DESCRIPTION: Each month, the Art Contest Studio will be focused on preparing students to enter an Art Contest (local, national, or international). We will choose a different Contest each month, and take the students all the way through the process: discussing the themes, introducing any parameters requirements in the contest, and submitting materials according to the contest rules.
Students can work on a project over multiple weeks, or create a new piece each week and then choose their favorite to submit at the end of the month. In some cases, contests may allow for collaboration, in which case students could work together.
September's Art Contest Studio will be creating art to submit to the "Embracing Our Differences" art contest. The theme, as stated is: "enriching lives through diversity and inclusion."
October/November's Art Contest will the be Poster Contest for the International Compost Awareness Week. The theme is: "Cool the Climate: Compost!" ***********************************

DESCRIPTION: A new book is chosen each month for discussion and activities, divided into 2 age groups. It is not necessary to have read the book prior to participating -- kids can still enjoy the activities and learn more about the book. You do not have to attend sessions each week.
SEPTEMBER 12-OCTOBER 18: Our book is Farmer Boy, to help our Traveling Troupe prepare for our performance at the Heritage Farmstead and Museum on Sept 28.
OCTOBER 25-NOVEMBER 29: Our book is Treasure Island. We are kicking off this book with a special arrangement through Dallas Children's Theater to see "Treasure Island Reimagined" at DCT on Oct 20 for just $10/ticket. ***********************************

DESCRIPTION: Ms. Marney is super excited about teachingthis brand new class! Kids get to take the creative lead and design dances and routines to perform together, inspired by different creative challenges each week.
This class is appropriate for kids who have taken classes or have experience with dance, as well as kids who are new to dance and creative movement.
While some standard dance moves will be covered, the focus on this class is about the process of creative expression, rather than a technique-based product.
Age 5+ are welcome, and the creative process is stimulated with lots of different ages working together....so big kids, small kids ... let's MOVE!

DESCRIPTION: J ulia Morgan of Ready Set Resources has partnered with RPL to provide two classes this semester that are free to RPL Members (only $10 supply fee): Skill Builders Speakers Club and Debate League.
The RPL Homeschool Debate League is a recreational club that is focused on inviting students to explore and enjoy the debate experience without a huge time commitment. The League will use debate sparring, games, activities, and individual and team debates to learn the relevant skills for Public Forum debate, such as:
-examining propositions -determining the issues at play -structuring cases and rebuttals -learning about effective cross-examination -conducting evidence research -summarizing the state of a debate -learning how to identify and combat logical fallacies -understanding the elements of judging.

DESCRIPTION: KidProf Coach Kai (supervised by Ms Carolina) will lead a twice-monthly gym class, with exercises and fun athletic games. All spots will be no-contact and flexible for different fitness levels and abilities. The goal is to get the bodymoving, have fun, and practice positive, friendly competition.

DESCRIPTION: Little Library Musicals is our program for homeschoolers/preschoolers age 4-8 in which kids present mini-musicals with creative twists on favorite childrens books and stories!
Each session, our young actors learn and prepare a new RPL-original mini musical to perform for friends and family. Each child receives a CD to play at home, to practice at home and learn songs and simple lines. These short shows allow a positive opportunity for young actors to become comfortable on stage, and feel the exciting achievement of producing an actual show at the end!
Each session includes 5 classes, with a performance for friends/family is held during the final class.
The first 5-Week session is: The Rollicking Rescue of Peter Rabbit The second 5-Week session is: The Daze of Christmas (starts Nov 6)

DESCRIPTION: In Musical Theatre U, kids age 8+ learn musical theatre FUNdamentals, with an emphasis on the FUN! Our creative curriculum uses traditional Broadway shows to teach basic theatre principles, and kids earn their “rising star” for successfully demonstrating each skill by the end of the month.
Each session includes 4 classes.
Session 1: Stage Skills include: blocking, stage direction, prop usage, projection, focus, physicality, self vs. other awareness. Studying songs from Hamilton, RENT, and Les Miserables
Session 2: Sound Skills include: projection, tempo, expression, articulation, vocal variety, character through voice, vocal style. Studying songs from Wicked, Hamilton, and A Chorus Line.

TED-ED CLUB Age 8+ Tuesdays in Richardson, 1:00-2:00 (starts Sept 11) Online registration required. Free for Members
DESCRIPTION: TED-Ed Clubs help students discover and develop their big ideas into short, TED-style talks. The Clubs program is designed to support students ages 8-18 with a flexible presentation training curriculum, culminating in a final presentation at the end of the semester. We invite you to participate in our very first RPL TED-ED Club, joining thousands of Clubs in 100+ countries in a global network of passionate youth with ideas worth sharing. The curriculum is in three parts:
1. Identify your passion: "What makes your heart beat faster?" The first part of the curriculum has students explore the ideas they're passionate about. By diving into activities that expand curiosity, participants will identify and discuss what matters most to them.
2. Choose Your Idea: "What is YOUR big idea?" As students journey through the curriculum, they'll be challenges to identify and shape the story only they can tell. Through guided brainstorms and active peer feedback exercises, students will crat their very own TED-style talk.
3. Start Talking: "How can your idea change the world?" By the end of their club cycle, students will have recorded their very own talk and uploaded it to our RPL Club's YouTube channel, which can then be shared with their families, friends, communities around the world.

Rehearsals are held Thursdays 1:00-2:00 at FBCR, and the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays Evenings at the Guerra home in Murphy. You are required to attend two rehearsals a month to participate, but can attend as many as you like. You are not required to participate in every performance and select the ones that match your schedule.
