The first step of RPL's New Theatre Festival is a 12-week Playwriting Class, where students will write plays and musicals to be produced in RPL's Theatre Festival in the Fall!
In this 12-week program, students will learn the fundamentals of writing plays and musicals, and write a script (and optionally, songs) of their own. The approach will be a fun twist based on using Aristotle’s hierarchy of elements to build plot, character, and theme...greatly infused with creativity and self-expression!
Students will learn a new concept each week, and be given suggested assignments to complete in between class each week, to gently nudge toward completing a short script.
We will meet virtually via Zoom and all classes are recorded, so no worries if you miss any classes.
Tuition also includes a thorough review of each student's script when complete.
This class is for age 8+. In between classes, your child will need to have a way to record his/her words - either written, typed, or dictated. If your child wants to write during class and may need a bit of support to do so comfortably, parents are welcome to join the class to take notes or dictation.
Kids who want to partner with a sibling or friend as co-writers are welcome to do so!
The Big Goal? RPL's Premiere Theatre Festival coming this Fall – where kids will collaborate to produce these works, celebrating new works written bykids!
